When many enterprises first work with TPU film, they often find the material's properties impressive; however, during actual processing, they frequently encounter issues such as poor lamination, weak print adhesion, or surface mottling. This is not because the TPU film itself is defective, but rather because the processing requirements differ from those of conventional materials.
Common issues in TPU film processing:
1. Insufficient surface adhesion. TPU films have relatively low surface energy; consequently, direct printing or lamination often leads to delamination, color loss, or poor adhesion.
2. Mismatched thermal processing parameters: Poor control of temperature, pressure, or time can lead to film deformation or yellowing, and may even compromise the final strength.
3. Inconsistent post-lamination peel strength: Peel performance varies significantly depending on the substrate materials, adhesive layers, and processing conditions.
How can this be resolved?
1. Apply surface treatment: Methods such as corona or plasma treatment can effectively increase surface energy, ensuring greater stability during subsequent printing and lamination.
2. Select the right adhesive film: The hot-melt adhesive film, the lamination adhesive layer, and the TPU substrate must be compatible; one cannot simply focus on the adhesiveness of the glue itself.
3. Prototype before mass production: Many issues stem not from the materials themselves, but from process compatibility; conducting small-scale tests first allows for the early identification of potential risks.
Why is process compatibility important? Because TPU film is not a "plug-and-play" general-purpose material. Its strength lies in its high performance, but realizing that potential depends on using the right processing methods.
When processed correctly, TPU film performs consistently across operations such as lamination, printing, heat pressing, high-frequency welding, and composite processing. Conversely, if process compatibility is overlooked, even the best material may fail to yield the desired results.
